Espoonlahti-Saunalahti is a double parted Natura reserve-area on the border of Espoo and Kirkkonummi.

The Espoonlahti area has significant value as a nesting- and resting place for   water- and wetland birdlife. Then bay area is a popular resting place for Whooper Swans and Smews. There is a population of Macroplea pubipennis- beetle which lives on the shores of Saunalahti and Kirkkonummi. The species is classified as endangered.

Protection aims for the area:

All species mentioned in the information charts 3.1 ja 3.2 (not including D- species) are included in the protection grounds and notably the protection of the area as a part of the network. The area reed bed and water area are to be kept in natural state, and free from e.g., motorboat traffic. The shore bank is to be kept open to preserve the micro-climate.

Majviks’ nature is varied and diverse. There are many rare plants and species growing and living in the area. For instance, Buxbaumia aphylla moss, Dicranum viride moss and a population of Macroplea pubipennis beetles.

There are flying squirrel paths in our woodland area. A pair of Mute Swans have nested in the shore reeds of Majvik Mute for several summers. Our shore area is a protected area, which means that we cannot do any dredging in the bay.
